Danielle’s 1st Birthday Party

A month after Joshua’s birthday party at The Polliwogs (see post HERE), his sister Danielle celebrated her 1st birthday. The party was held in a function room at her home. Danielle’s mother, Elizabeth, had worked till the wee hours of the morning making and putting together decorations for the party.

The party was a cosy, simple affair with the children having a swim or playing in the playground first before coming indoors for dinner. Once indoors, much of the children’s energies was focused on a ball pit. My daughter Beth was no different and immediately jumped into the ball pit which had all her favourite elements – a bouncy castle, slide and balls all rolled into one.

Danielle, having just turned 1 year old, stayed away from the ball pit but some adults had fun goofing around with their kids in the pit. Sculptured balloons were made for each child by Wendy, a talented friend of Joshua’s parents. Wendy is the mother of Becky, Kaitlyn and Alex whom I have also photographed (e.g. see Alex, Kaitlyn, and Becky). The girls mainly requested for balloon butterfly wings and tiaras/crowns while the boys requested for swords.

The kids were having so much fun that it proved a challenge getting them to sit down for dinner. But once they did, most children could not wait for the gorgeous fondant birthday cake and pretty cupcakes for dessert.

Engagement: Clement & Jean – Shoot 3

For Clement and Jean’s final engagement shoot (see Shoot 1 and Shoot 2), we went to the Victoria Concert Hall and Marina Bay Promenade. This final shoot was more formal and traditional compared to the lighthearted quirkiness of the first 2 shoots.

Clement and Jean share a passion for music. Both of them have sung in choirs since their school days and Victoria Concert Hall holds many memories for them. Towards the end of the shoot, there was a choir practising for an event that was being held that evening in the lobby area. We could hear the singing and the mood was simply magical.

Clement proposed to Jean along the water front at Marina Bay Promenade last year and the final shot at the end of this blogpost was an attempt at recreating the selfie they took the night Jean said “Yes”.

Joshua’s 4th Birthday Party

I have been slowly catching up on a selection of shoots I did last year that I never found the time to post on this blog. Joshua, celebrated his 4th birthday in September last year  with his family and many of his friends turned up for his party held at The Polliwogs, Suntec City. Polliwogs is an indoor play area featuring slides, tunnels, shooting areas and obstacle courses for children.

I had previously done a family shoot (see post HERE) for Joshua’s family just after he turned 3 and before his sister Danielle was born. At Joshua’s party, there were many familiar faces for my wife Laura. Baby Noah and his parents (see post HERE) whom I photographed last year were there too.

Photographing at a place such as The Polliwogs featured some unusual challenges for me as a photographer. There were 2 other parties being held at the same time; so the place was extremely crowded. Children from each party wore different coloured wrist bands (blue for Joshua’s party) and identifying which child was from which party was extremely tough given that the place was filled with children running around! The play area is like a huge maze filled with obstacles and I had to crawl through different areas just so I could photograph the children playing. Near the end of the party, I took about 15 to 20 mins just to find my daughter Beth!

After the first half of the party which featured free play in the play area, Polliwogs arranged some party games for the kids as well as food for their hungry tummies.
