Baby Eden’s 1st Birthday Party

It is always a pleasure to reconnect and catch up with couples whose weddings I had photographed. This is especially so when their family has since expanded with the arrival of children. I photographed Brandon & Shiao’s wedding about 3 1/2 years ago (see HERE). Recently they celebrated their baby daughter Eden’s 1st birthday at Food for Thought at the National Museum of Singapore.

Shiao spent a lot of time hand-making many of the decorations for the party which included cute animal masks for their guests to wear for photographs. For me, it was an enjoyable party to capture with a very relaxed and intimate atmosphere. Shiao’s mum also celebrated her birthday at the same time, making it a double celebration.

The following are some highlights from Eden’s birthday party.

Pets: Mocha

For the past few months, I have been working towards revamping this website to focus more on the documentary aspect of my photography services. At the same time, I am aiming to integrate the contents on my www.derrickchoo.com website which is still running on ‘mobile unfriendly’ flash. Many blog posts that were planned for months ago have been postponed till the website is updated. This will probably be one of the last blog posts before the update happens. Please be patient when the changes occur as it might take time for the older blog posts to be updated and all the formatting of the pages might be misaligned.

This post features some highlights from Mei Yun’s pet photography shoot at Upper Pierce Reservoir. Mocha is her sweet and good-natured Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

I find it helpful to play by ear during pet photography sessions as a lot depends on how the pet responds to the camera. My aim is to try and capture some of the pet’s personality as well as the bond between the pet and his/her owner. Like photographing babies or even weddings, there is a lot of anticipating of certain moments or expressions.

During the photoshoot, there was a large troop of monkeys playing nearby in the trees and walking along the water’s edge. Not used to seeing a lot of wildlife here in Singapore, it made for an interesting sight. I was wondering if Mocha would get excited and chase after them but she did a wonderful job of posing for the camera without getting distracted by the chattering monkeys nearby.

Joshua’s 4th Birthday Party

Joshua celebrated his 4th birthday about a month ago with his family and friends. His parents, Melvin and Wei Chin, did a really wonderful job of putting together the party decorations, food and children’s activities in their home. The party decor was super hero oriented as you can see from the photos below.

The atmosphere of the party was filled with warmth, friendship and fun. Besides Joshua’s friends, there were a few babies and toddlers like Joshua’s sister, Isabel, who also enjoyed the food and various party activities. All the children were extremely well-behaved and Joshua was an excellent host to his young friends.

In the middle of the party, the children went outdoors for a bit of Spiderman fun. Joshua’s mother had decorated some cardboard boxes to look like buildings and the children spent time spraying it with canned ‘spider web’.

There was Piñata time afterwards as the children took turns to whack a Piñata with a small baseball bat till all the goodies came tumbling out.

The first thing to go once the candles were blown out was the icing that made up the letters of Joshua’s name.

I hope you enjoyed the photos of my coverage of Joshua’s Birthday Party as much as I enjoyed capturing them.
